It's a weekend of food, festivals, and lots of music. We also have a run and kayaking or a nature hike. There will be sandcastles and a lawn party at the park. The weekend weather looks great. Get out and enjoy one of the few remaining weekends left this summer.

    2018 Sand Sculpture Contest

    It’s the 37th Annual Sand Sculpture Contest at the Grand Haven City Beach on Saturday! Registration begins at 9 am and the sculpting begins at 10 am. Teams have until 12:30 pm to complete their masterpiece before jurying takes place. This is fun for all ages! No need to be a professional -- grab a bucket and join in the fun! If you're not interested in participating, you'll definitely want to come down and watch the sculpting in action. Make sure you cast your vote for People's Choice!

    Lawn Party Extravaganza

    Go Rogue

    Sunday, August 12th, 2018 - 9:00 am

    Downtown Rockford, MI

    Cost: $80

    We are excited for our inaugural Go Rogue Race. Go Rogue is a 3.5 mile run and 3.5 mile kayak on the Rogue River, starting at 9 am.  The race starts out at the Rockford Foot Depot.  You will hop on the wooded White Pine Trail, which runs along the Rogue River, take a little jog over to tree-lined Summit to Rector, ending at Camp Rockford. A kayak will be numbered and waiting for you at Camp Rockford where you go from running to paddling for the second leg of your trip. The Kayaking is roughly 3 1/2 miles long, taking approximately 1.5 hours at a leisurely pace to complete. The race ends in downtown Rockford where we will have a boxed lunch from Herman's boy waiting for you. After lunch, it’s a post-race party at Rockford Brewing. Proceeds to go to Team Orphans, who provide grants for special needs adoptions.

    Nature Hike

    Cost: Free

    August is the peak of many prairie and summer wildflowers with the heat spurring them on. Four different Silphiums, Sunflowers, Coneflowers, Goldenrods and more will be in bloom as well as grasses blooming and easier to identify. This walk will be held on the Prairie Path and a trip into the Prairie itself to experience what it is like walking in tall grasses over your head. You can also view the prairie from the raised observation deck.
