ArtPrize Nine

Costs: FreeArtPrize Nine officially kicked off on Wednesday. Now is your chance to get out and look at the art and start voting. Round 1 voting ends on September 30th. There are 1,352 entries in this year’s ArtPrize located at more than 170 different venues in five zones around the downtown area.

Great Lake Cup Drone Racing Championships

Cost: Tickets start at $25 for Adults, $10 for ChildrenThe first Great Lakes Cup Drone Racing Championship will be at the Van Andel Arena this weekend. This event will be coordinated with FPV Racing Events who is handling race sanctioning and management with MultiGP and the Academy of Model Aeronautics. This event will have a $10,000 total purse for its champions making it one of the top 10 races in the United States drone racing world. There will be a live drone light show in coordination with ArtPrize 9 above the downtown Grand Rapids skyline Friday night and Saturday night at dusk

Cost: Free to watch. $1,500 to rappel down the side of the buildingOver the Edge West Michigan is a premier event for Easter Seals Michigan. Every person who raises a minimum of $1,500 will secure a place on the ropes to rappel down the Plaza Towers building downtown. Easter Seals Michigan serves and supports people with disabilities and special needs so they can successfully live, learn, work and play in their communities.

Cost: Free AdmissionWest Side Walk for Gilda’s Club is a fall pledge, 1.5 mile walk event and community open house/block party that will start and end at Gilda’s Club. Free registration opens at 11 am, the walk begins at Noon, and the Block Party will run from 1-2 pm. The West Side walk is designed to engage anyone interested in walking, regardless of their level of fitness. After the walk, Gilda’s Club invites everyone to stay for a Block Party featuring information about - and tours of - Gilda’s Club, various West Side vendors, and family friendly activities.

Grand Valley State University welcomes The Wall That Heals which was built in 1996 by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund. The Wall will be on display to the public at Fifth Third Ballpark. Free tickets are available at Family Fare, D&W stores and Forest Hills Foods. Parking on Saturday is $5.
