ArtPrize has announced that Nathaniel Lewis won Pitch Night Phoenix on Tuesday night with his proposal to enter a 13-foot cap gun replica into ArtPrize 10. The entry titled "Re:VOLVER." will be displayed at Grand Rapids Art Museum.

Lewis earned a $5,000 grant by winning Pitch Night Phoenix.

ArtPrize Pitch Night began in 2013 as a way for out-of-town artists to win a grant and a prime spot to display their work at ArtPrize. Any artist may submit an idea. Five finalists then pitch their project in front of a panel of five. The panel then selects the winning artist and entry.

In theory, Pitch Night helps ensure a higher level of artwork at ArtPrize each year. That is usually the case. More cities and more winning artists have been added since Pitch Night premiered in 2013. This year, there are Pitch Night events in six cities with competitions in Nashville, Cincinnati and Detroit still to come.

Lewis' entry is meant to highlight the way toys may influence future behavior.

Lewis said, "One of the only guns that my mom ever let me buy as a kid was a little cap gun. It was something that always stood out in my mind because my parents, in general, weren’t okay with guns."
