A GoFundMe Page Is Set Up For Colony Of Grand Rapids Stray Cats
Here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty, Kitty. A HUGE colony of stray cats and kittens has been found on Powers Ave NW. And now, you can help these sick and stray cats in Grand Rapids. Awww.
Ani Vardanian has posted on the Grand Rapids Informed Facebook page that she discovered some kittens and cats in need of help. She stated,
"There are at least 20 cats and kittens, probably more. None of them are fixed and just keep having babies."
Apparently, this has been going on for years. On the post, Vardanian added,
"Last night, we caught 4 of them! 2 babies and 2 young adults. Both babies are very sick, and they are all going to the vet today. We’re going to try to get these guys into a shelter ASAP so we can go get more of them on the street. These babies won’t survive without some kindness and love!!"
You can contribute to the Go Fund Me account by clicking here. Vardanian said they plan to get as many of these kitties healthy and adopted into forever homes.
According to the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, there are between 60 million and 100 million feral cats in the U.S. They are usually the offspring of cats who were lost or abandoned by their owners, and they grow up not socialized to humans.
ASPCA and Humane Society say the key to helping stray cats is to have them neutered or spayed. Pets WedMD says these are the easiest 5 ways to help stray or feral cats:
- Don’t contribute to the problem
- Don’t feed and forget feral cats-they need professional health care
- Show you care with cash
- Volunteer your time
- Become a colony caretaker
