A mother from the Metro-Detroit area was sentenced to 7 days in the Oakland County Jail for refusing to vaccinate her 9-year-old son.

FOX 2 Detroit reports that Rebecca Bredow, of Ferndale, was in court on Wednesday morning where the judge reminded her that she had a week to comply or else she would have to go jail. She had until 9 a.m. Wednesday to get it done, which she failed to do.

It's clear to me that you don't care about orders even if you agree to them, which you did."

Bredow said that even though she takes full responsibility for her actions, vaccinations go against her beliefs and it shouldn't be forced upon parents to do so.

Her ex-husband has been wanting for their son to get vaccinated but when she refused, he took her to court. While Bredow has primary custody, the judge told her that Dad also gets a say when it comes to their children.

After the sentencing, the 9-year-old boy was temporarily placed in his dad's custody and ordered to get vaccinated.

In Michigan parents are allowed to fill out a non-medical waiver so that their child is opted-out of having to get immunizations. However, in this situation, it's only ONE parent who wants to opt-out; and since the court had already sided with the father, the child [in this case] must have the proper vaccinations.

The CDC has a list of risks that could occur if a parent chooses not to vaccinate their child.

Below is an interview that Bardow did with ABC News last week.
