A New Food Concept Restaurant Is In The Works For 28th Street
Soon 28th Street will be seeing a new food concept restaurant in place of the former Chinatown Restaurant, which closed down in 2016 when the owner retired after 40 years.
Andy Rosario, the owner of Maya Mexican Bar & Grill in Rogers Plaza Town Center, tells News 8 he closed on the former Chinatown restaurant at 69 28th St. SW on Friday for $375,000.
What Are Plans For The Location?
Andy Rosario said he wants to bring in a new Latino restaurant concept.
When Will The New Restaurant Open?
The current Chinatown needs a lot of work and renovations. If there are no major issues during the process and things remain on the current timeline, the new restaurant is expected to open in five to six months, in fall of 2022.
What Food Will Be On The Menu?
While we don't know the exact items that will be on the menu, some popular Latin foods include:
Mexican Rice
Not to be confused with Spanish rice, Mexican rice is flavored with tomatoes.
It's cooked in broth and infused with seasonings.
Galinhada (Brazilian Saffron Chicken and Rice)
The dish features chicken, rice, and vegetables.
Empanadas de Pino (Chilean Beef Empanadas)
I bet you've never tried something like this before.
The Empanadas de Pino has beef filling loaded with hard-boiled eggs, olives, and raisins.
Guacamole
Mashed avocados are seasoned with salt, lime juice, red onions, and jalapenos.
Tamales
Made of dough steamed in either a corn husk or banana leaf.
Typically filled with meat, cheese, or fruit filling.
