After 17 Years Amway Is Leaving Russia And Now Sending Aid to Ukraine
Companies from around the world have been leaving Russian and now Amway has pulled out and is now sending aid to Ukraine.
What is Amway?
First things first, Amway stands for "American Way." Amway is a company founded by Jay Van Andel and Richard DeVos that specializes in beauty, health, and home care products. The company is based out of Ada, Michigan but is affiliated with companies in more than a hundred countries and territories.
Companies Leaving Russia
Russia's invasion of Ukraine has forced many companies in America and around the globe to close up shop. Amway has now been added to a list of companies that keeps growing each day like McDonald's, Starbucks, Ikea, Adidas, Goldman Sachs, Western Union, American Express, Visa, Mastercard, Burger Kings, Mars, Little Caesars, Heiniken, Pepsi, Netflix, Walt Disney, Sony, Warner Bros, Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, UPS, FedEx, DHL, Hyatt, Hilton, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, and this list goes on and on and continues to grow.
Why is Amway Leaving Russia
Aside from Russia invading Ukraine, supply chain issues were already a problem and then you add a war it makes it impossible for Amway and other businesses to try to maintain their operations.
How Does Amway Leaving Russia Affect the Country?
According to WOOD, Amway's 17-year presence in Russia is substantial. There are half a million Amway distributorships that bring in around $200 million in sales.
Amway’s business model is different because they have hundreds of thousands of business owners and were trying not to pull their livelihood from them after working with the company for 17 years but had no choice.
How is Amway Helping Ukraine?
Amway is now helping with humanitarian efforts for Ukraine. Amway is sending nutrition bars and cookware because most of those fleeing the country left with the clothes on their backs. They are also sending hand sanitizer to shelters and hospitals.
Amway has been assisting with transportation, food, and shelter for those Ukrainians entering Poland. Even some Amway executives from Ada have gone to Poland to assist those crossing the border.
Amway is working with the Red Cross and Global Impact and internally they are taking donations from employees and customers and matching them and sending them out as quickly as they come in.
