Michigan residents may have found themselves shook to their nostalgic core with the news that the beloved burger chain Hot 'n Now would be returning with new locations.

The storied franchise got its start in Michigan before a meteoric rise to 150 locations only to face bankruptcy and dwindle down to a single location in Sturgis.

The soon-to-open locations will will include just two at launch: Wayland between Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids along US-131 near Gun Lake Casino, one of the investors in the chain's rebirth, and Alpena.

That Alpena location leaves some people scratching their heads and asking, why Alpena? The city was not home to a Hot 'n Now location during its original establishment.

It turns out the small northeast Michigan city is as the heart of a fast food renaissance.

Alpena is home to BCubed Manufacturing - and that company is at the heart of the return of Hot 'n Now. BCubed has developed a pre-fab 'restaurant in box' concept that is meant for drive-thru or walk-up service only. They are pre-wired and plumbed so can be installed on a site quickly.

BCubed announced development deals with coffee chain Biggby, Taco DelMar and sub shop Quiznos to produce this quick-up locations. A concept like Hot 'n Now fits perfectly with the BCubed concept.

Further, BCubed is setting up shop first on their home turf in Alpena using the site of a former county jail as a 'Food and Beverage Park' that will house this multiple drive-up restaurants.

When it comes to the future of American fast food, which has become largely mobile and based on take-away and delivery with many fewer patrons dining in, look to Alpena and its innovative restaurant design and clustering placement for a glimpse at would come be nationwide.

Former Hot 'n Nows of Michigan, What Are They Now?

The Michigan-based burger chain operated in nearly 15 states at its prime. Today the only remaining location in operation is in Sturgis, MI.
