You can add Spring Lake to the list of West Michigan communities that have added 'Social Zones' in their towns. These zones have cropped up as a part of the 'new normal' following the recent pandemic.

Today the village opened its 'social district' at 11am. The district will be open daily from 11a-10p and allow anyone who purchases alcoholic drinks from the designated establishments to move freely within the common areas and the district, along with the four bars/restaurants in the area.

The four establishments that will anchor the district include:

  • Fuel Bar & Refuge on 228 W Savidge St.
  • Stan's on 208 W Savidge St.
  • Finn's Speakeasy on 106 W. Savidge St.
  • Seven Steps Up at 116 South Jackson St.

The district's boundaries will be W Savidge St to the north, W Exchange St to the south, between S Park & S Division St on the west, and S Buchanan St on the east.

The social districts have sprung up as a byproduct of the pandemic when restaurants and bars struggled and outdoor dining and drinking options were at a premium. The village council approved the district back in May.

Currently, the following cities/towns in West Michigan have registered their social zones with the state:

Kent County
• Cedar Springs City
• Grand Rapids City
• Lowell City
• Rockford City

Ottawa County
• Spring Lake Village
• Holland City
• Zeeland City

Muskegon County
• Muskegon City

Allegan County
• Allegan City
• Douglas City
• Fennville City
• Saugatuck City
