Following reports of a bear at Indian Trails Golf Course in Southeast Grand Rapids Saturday night, GRPD have confirmed the sighting.

GRPD posted a video to Facebook, saying the "curious, docile" bear had "wandered into the city and climbed up a tree."

The bear was first seen at the Indian Trails Golf Course Saturday night and then re-emerged around 1:30 this morning in a tree in the 1600 block of Horton St SE.

GRPD say they are standing by with the bear until DNR arrives to get it safely back into the wild.

Fox 17 reported that shortly after 9p.m. on Saturday Taylor Shea Sargent called to say she was just leaving Buffalo Wild Wings on 28th Street when she noticed a bear heading westbound on the Indian Trails Golf Course, at 2776 Kalamazoo Avenue SE.

Sargent told Fox 17,

Out the corner of my eye I saw something black moving. It was way too big to be a dog, so I looked at it as it ran away and it was a bear".

While bear sightings in Grand Rapids are rare, last May there was a bear that found himself up in a tree on GR's Westside.
