Do you love visiting Michigan State Parks? Do you also have a love for photography? You could combine the two, and become a Photo Ambassador for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources!

The DNR launched a program this year to help photographers in our state showcase the beautiful scenery at Michigan State Parks. These 25 photo ambassadors included both amateur and professional photographers. The DNR is now accepting applications for their next class of state park “photo ambassadors".

The photo ambassadors will work with the DNR to capture outdoor recreation, parks and trails, and other state park scenes on the @MiStateParks Instagram account and in DNR marketing materials.

To qualify for this position applicants must have a public Instagram account and a love for the outdoors and Michigan state parks, trails and waterways. You must also have an eye for capturing interesting and engaging photos, an ability to post engaging content on Instagram, and the ability to encourage others to visit Michigan state parks, trails and waterways. The photo ambassador positions are unpaid, but they do include state park goodies and other perks.

Photo ambassadors are expected to share posts from @MiStateParks with your followers every month, and provide the Michigan DNR with at least 4 high-quality photos per month that will become property of the Michigan DNR, with credit to you, when applicable. You will also be asked to share your own stories about Michigan state parks on your Instagram account every month.

You can apply to be a 2021 photo ambassador through Friday, November 20th. More details about the program’s requirements and a link to register can be found online here.
