Butterflies Are Back At Frederick Meijer Garden

You can now see over 60 butterflies and moths inside the 50 foot tall Lena Meijer Tropical Conservatory at the Frederick Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park. The theme for the exhibit is "Into the Glass House". The variations of butterflies come from Costa Rica, Ecuador, Kenya, and the Philippines. Some of the highlights of the exhibit include the Caterpillar Room, Kid-Sense Garden, an 1880's Farmhouse, and a Butterfly Maze.

The Caterpillar Room is home to the lifecycle of the Monarch butterfly. Guests can watch as tiny black and yellow caterpillars feed on milkweed, spin a cocoon and emerge as Monarch butterflies.

The Kid-Sense space offers interactive projects for children to do. For example, the kids can look for a flower that looks like an eyeball to find a plant that smalls like buttered popcorn.

You'll find a 1880's Farmhouse. It is a three–quarter scale model of Lena (Rader) Meijer's childhood home. The wrap–around porch has rocking chairs for visitors to reminisce and relax.

Finally, you can solve the Butterfly Maze by navigating the right path and ring the bell to sound a victory.

The Butterfly exhibit features over 7,000 butterflies and runs through April 30th. This is the 26th year that the butterflies are blooming at the park.
