Celebrating the Fourth of July in Kentwood
The Fourth of July Holiday weekend will be a busy place in the city of Kentwood. They will have their annual Fourth of July celebration on Saturday, July 3rd.
Activities get started early with a pancake breakfast. Then you run off those calories in a 5K race. There will also be a parade, a carnival, and live music. The grand finale of the day will be fireworks lighting up the sky at dusk.
The pancake breakfast will be held at the Kentwood Branch of the Kent District Library from 7-9:30 am. The breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee. It is only $5 per person and children age 5 and under are free!
Next up it will be the NN Mobile Solutions 5K Race and Fun Walk. Racers will gather at the Kentwood City Hall parking lot at 7:30 am for registration and packet pickup. The race will start at 8:30 am. It starts and finishes in front of City Hall. All participants will receive a shirt and a finisher medal.
Everyone loves a parade! The Kentwood Parade will be at 9:30 am. The parade this year will honor essential workers. It starts and Crestwood Middle School. The parade then proceeds south on Walma Avenue to Breton, then west on 52nd St and ends at Challenger Elementary School.
After the parade, there will be a carnival at City Hall from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm. Wristbands for the rides will be $20, or individual tickets can be purchased for $1 each.
Later in the evening the celebrations continue from 4-10 pm. There will be community booths and a beer tent. If you get hungry, food trucks will line the lawn behind City Hall. Live music is also scheduled, with a variety of bands, leading up the fireworks show at dusk. The best place to view the fireworks will be at and around the area of City Hall.
