Chicago Cubs Pitcher Buys The Whitecaps Dinner [Photos]
Yu Darvish has a multi-million dollar contract to the pitch for the Chicago Cubs, so after a rehab start in South Bend against the West Michigan Whitecaps, buying both teams dinner was not a problem.
Darvish, a native of Japan, developed tendonitis in his throwing arm recently and needed to see if he was back in Major League shape, so the Cubs sent him down to their Class A farm club in South Bend Monday night to test it out.
It so happened the South Bend Cubs were playing the Whitecaps when Darvish was there. After holding the West Michigan team to one run on three hits in his five innings of work, Darvish gave way to the shaky South Bend bullpen, and the Caps rallied for a 4-2 win.
After the game Darvish sent out to the local Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, and treated both teams to a full steak dinner on his tab.
Max Green of the Whitecaps tweeted this photo of the spread. If you don't know, players at the Class A level of baseball do not make a lot of money, and rarely get to eat this well.
I'm not sure how many major leaguers treat their young associates this well, but it's nice to see at least one does.
Darvish will return to pitch for the Cubs in Los Angeles this weekend.
