Chilling Arctic Cold Blast May Make Christmas Travel Tricky
A cold polar blast of air that will start this weekend, will continue into next week, bringing snow, wind and overall bad travel conditions through Christmas Day.
Bone Chilling Arctic Air Will Bring Snow And Wind With It
Forecasts from both the National Weather Service and AccuWeather say a storm system that will set itself up this weekend will lock most of the Upper Midwest into a bad weather cycle that will hamper Christmas travel.
And while a white Christmas is a romantically beautiful notion, travel wise, things could get dicey.
The poor travel conditions will extend from Minneapolis all the way to Washington DC, as the storm settles into the Central and Eastern regions from next Thursday through Christmas Day, the following Sunday.
Snow during at least part of the storm is likely to extend from parts of the southern Plains to the Midwest, Northeast and perhaps even the interior Southeast states during the period from Thursday, Dec. 22 to Saturday, Dec. 24.
While this forecast is not set in stone, the NWS is basically agreeing with it for now, with their seven day forecast showing snow showers and frigid temperatures ruling over most of next week, with high temperatures staying in the teens Wednesday and Thursday of next week.
Driving And Flying Will Both Be Dicey Come Christmas
With major airports like Chicago, Atlanta and Philadelphia in the storm's sights, air travel will be disrupted, not to mention attempting to drive long distances through potential blizzard conditions.
While things could change, you may want to consider alternatives if travel conditions deteriorate through the Holiday weekend. It probably also wouldn't hurt to pray for good weather.
