There may be no larger name associated with the spectacle of College Football than ESPN's Lee Corso. Since the inception of the seminal College Gameday pregame show, Croso has provided commentary from the coaching perspective.

With the news that he will now retire after the first week of the 2025 season, here's a look back at 48 times he's made a headgear prediction involving a Michigan school.

Fans of College Gameday know that while there are dozens of matchups across the country each Saturday, the ESPN College Gameday show goes onto the campus of one high profile contest. In the picks segment Croso makes a prediction on the spotlight game and does so by donning the headgear of the mascot for the team he favors.

College Gameday has been on three campuses in Michigan. Often to the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and Michigan State in East Lansing. There has been one other Gameday visit to Michigan, that to Kalamazoo during the PJ Fleck 'Row the Boat' era of Western Michigan University Bronco football.

In the four games featured on Gameday between Michigan and Michigan State in 1997, 1999, 2015 and 2021. Croso predicted a Michigan win in three of the games only favoring the Spartans in 1999, an upset with a #11 MSU downing a #3 U of M.

Corso's record in Wolverine-Spartan matchups is 2-2.

Croso has donned the Sparty head 4 times with predictions of an MSU win in 1999 over Michigan, twice in 2014 for wins over Stanford and Ohio State and last in 2015 predicting a win over Iowa.

Corso went 3-1 when predicting a Spartan win, only getting the 2014 Ohio State match-up wrong.

Lee Corso's Record picking Michigan

There have been many more spotlight match-ups where College Gameday has been involved in Michigan games. Corso has chosen the winged maize and blue helmet 16 times over his career. He went 11-6 with Michigan headgear.

One of those Michigan predictions Corso got wrong? The infamous (depending on your perspective) Trouble with the Snap game against Michigan State in 2015. Lee had predicted a Michigan win and was correct with that prediction until 00:01 in the 4th quarter when this happened:

Lee Coro's Record in Kalamazoo

Gameday has visited WMU's campus only once and Croso is a perfect 1-0 predicting a Bronco win over Buffalo. It was a very cold, snowy morning in Kalamazoo and here's video of the pick:

D. Stumpy is a forgotten tree stump found in the environmental wasteland of a freeway interchange between I-75 and I-96 in Detroit. The stump is often dressed to celebrate the region's sports teams. See the evolution of D. Stumpy from a thriving tree to forgotten stump.
