Jokes go back a couple of centuries about going over Niagara Falls in a barrel. How about going over Northern Michigan waterfalls in a kayak?

That's what one adventure seeker did recently and it was all captured on video.

The spot was Interstate Falls as the snow and ice from the brutal winter of 2024-25 began to recede.

The falls are located on the Montreal River northwest of Ironwood. Access to the falls is from the Wisconsin side after a roughly 0.35 mile hike from a parking lot at US 2 just past US 51 across the Michigan line.

Kayaker Jason Pientka was the one shooting the rapids and the 18 foot drop as the river meanders its way towards Lake Superior.

It should to without saying that this is a potentially dangerous stunt and should not be attempted by someone unfamiliar with the area or this style of outdoors sports. As one commented on social media:

The person must know those waters well. There are huge remains of trees wedged in the boulders just under the surface..
