Local Radio Station Hopes to ‘Fill the Basket’ to Help Feed Kids
The Free Beer & Hot Wings Show and 97.9 GRD are teaming up to raise funds for Kids' Food Basket in hopes of filling the basket!
Join us Thursday, August 8 from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. as we go completely commercial-free (thanks to our friends at Rowerdink Incorporated, Michigan's Largest AC Delco Distributor) to raise money for Kids' Food Basket.
What Is Kids' Food Basket?
Many kids in West Michigan do not have food to eat when they get home from school each day or on the weekends, and for years, Kids' Food Basket has been changing that one meal at a time. KFB combines healthy food access with education and agriculture to move the needle toward a more equitable West Michigan. Their mission is to nourish kids to reach their full potential.
Kids' Food Basket Always Needs Volunteers
And Kids' Food Basket is driven by volunteers. Whether you're decorating bags, coming in for a shift, or donating a dollar, every effort helps. Kids' Food Basket needs volunteers to help prep, pack and transport Sack Suppers. And volunteering is for everyone from age 5 to 95!
This school year, KFB served about 10,0000 meals per weekday to 60 schools in West Michigan in Kent, Muskegon, Ottawa, and Allegan counties. Last year, 4,188 youth participated in Kids' Food Basket's nutrition education programming provided by professional educators dedicated to connecting kids and the community to their food and where it comes from.
How Your Contribution to Kids' Food Basket Can Help
Donate to Help Fill The Basket
And here's where you come in - we want you to open your hearts and your wallets to help out kids in West Michigan. And every dollar helps. In fact,
- Just $10 can provide a daily serving of dairy to a child for two months.
- $15 can provide a child with healthy evening meals for an entire school week.
- $25 provides a serving of fresh fruit in Sack Suppers for an entire school.
- $50 will provide a child with healthy evening meals for a month.
- $100 can provide two entire classrooms with nutrition education that encourages kids to try fresh produce.
- $600 can provide a child Sack Supper for an entire year.
- $979 can provide fresh fruit for 40 entire schools! (Which is 2/3 of Kids' Food Basket's school list.)
- $35,000 provides Sack Suppers to a school for an entire year.
- $100,000 can fund yogurt in Sack Suppers every week for an entire school year.
- $100,000 can also fund Break Bags, the large bags that are sent home with kids before school breaks, for an entire year!
- $105,000 can take a school off of the waiting list to receive Sack Suppers each weekday.
- And $125,000 can power one sustainable, 10-acre farm for an entire growing season.
Kids Food Basket is 92% philanthropically funded.
