Fire Warnings Posted For Lower Michigan

We may get some relief from the dry weather with some thunderstorms later tonight into Friday, but until then the dry conditions are causing some problems.

The long running drought continues to cause issues in Lower Michigan, as the National Weather Service has issued a fire weather warning for Northern Lower Michigan, including Kent County.

The red flag warning from the NWS means that low humidity and gusty winds have increased the chances of fires developing in the wild, and means that man made fire-causing activities need to be curtailed.

Impacts...The potential exists for fires to grow out of
  control quickly this afternoon due to warm, dry and breezy

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now or will shortly. The combination of
strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Be careful with any activities that could potentially lead to a
wildfire. Camping...outdoor grills...smoking materials...chain
saws...and all terrain vehicles all have the potential to throw a
spark and ignite a dangerous and destructive fire.
