In another surprise tribute at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tonight, Sheryl Crow and Grace Potter paid tribute to the late Glenn Frey with a stripped-down version of Eagles' "New Kid in Town."

Crow and an additional guitarist traded rhythms and riffs on acoustic guitars, with the latter at center stage on lead vocals. Potter stood to Crow's right, harmonizing on the seminal Hotel California track.

These harmonies were completely on the mark, of course, which is perhaps the best tribute to both Eagles and the late Frey, who passed away in January. The pair adroitly captured the band's seamless mix of country and Laurel Canyon rock, putting a heartfelt, sincere spin on the song.

Earlier in the evening, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremonies kicked off with a surprise tribute to David Bowie by David Byrne, Kimbra and the Roots, who played a version of Bowie's 1975 No. 1 hit "Fame."

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is inducting Deep Purple, Steve Miller, Chicago and Cheap Trick tonight as part of the annual ceremonies. This year’s induction class hasn’t been without its controversies, with Deep Purple, Chicago and even Cheap Trick upsetting some fans regarding the choices as to who and who won’t be onstage to accept the inductions and perform.

The 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be broadcast on HBO on April 30.
