Construction on the long anticipated international bridge between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario is nearing completion. When done, it will add a new border crossing with the goal of alleviating some traffic congestion on the tunnel between the two nations.

The question has come up around road enthusiasts as to what number, if any, the roadway and bridge will carry. Specifically the Roadgeekery forum on Facebook has an active discussion on the topic.

It's actually unlikely the ramps to the bridge will carry any highway designation nor the bridge surface itself. There just won't be much roadway between I-75 and the customs/toll areas. Just a few hundred feet of on/off ramp will exist. Nor has there been any talk from the MIchigan Department of Transportation about establishing a new highway designation.

That said, there's no reason the online roadgeek community can't have some fun speculating about potential highway numbers if one was ever assigned.

From state routes (M-routes) to Interstate spur routes there are many numbers that could be considered for the roadway. What is most unlikely is any US route number would be assigned. Detroit once had many US routes through town (US 10, US 25, US 16) and now the region is down to just US 24 and that passes much to far west to be a consideration for a highway number here.

So here are the potential route numbers that the Michigan Department of Transportation should absolutely consider for the roadway.
