Michiganders will be spending at least an extra two weeks at home in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19. On Thursday, May 7, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced that she is extending the state's stay at home order until May 28.

The May 28 date aligns with the expiration of our current state of emergency declaration.

The governor also announced in a press conference that manufacturing will be able to reopen starting May 11. This includes the Big 3 Automakers.

The reopening of manufacturing is part of the "MI Safe Start" plan, which Whitmer says will ensure that we "re-engage our economy safely and responsibly."

Today's executive order extends the last extension of the stay at home order, which was scheduled to end on May 15.

May 7 also marked the first day that businesses such as construction and real estate were able to resume. Previously, landscaping, golf courses, greenhouses, and some other outdoor industries were able to resume business.

Restaurants and bars remain closed to dine-in guests for the time being.
