Summer is finally here, and while it was originally expected to be one of the busiest travel summers on record in a decade, due to rising gas prices, many Michiganders are expected to stay near home.

But when you live in the Great Lake State and have access to so many beach areas, it's still not so bad to save money and enjoy some of the beautiful views offered to you right outside your back door.

So, in order to help people really get the most out of their summer and to save money on parking and travel, the city of Grand Haven will be offering Trolly and Beach Shuttle rides for free.

When do the shuttles start?

The free shuttles in Grand Haven that begin June 4 will take passengers back and forth between several parking locations and Grand Haven City Beach.

When can I catch a shuttle?

The shuttles will run between noon and 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Sept. 4. The looped trolley routes will begin Tuesday, May 31st, and will run through September 5th.

Where do the shuttles run?

In addition to the previous shuttles that run between several parking areas and the beach, The Beach Express shuttles will join looped trolley routes that travel as far as Fruitport, and stop at various locations of interest along the way. The routes that are on brand new trolleys that happen to include beach stops, will be offered for free this summer.

Are there any weekends you can't catch the shuttle?

As of now, the only planned weekend where service will not be available will be August 6th, due to the Coast Guard Festival. You'll want to make alternative plans that weekend if you plan to get around Grand Haven.

Make the most of this summer if you're staying in Michigan, and save some of that gas money to spend on Pronto Pups at the beach.
