Recently thought a day of rest has turned into rescuing because of the rough water conditions.
Because of that, Grand Haven State Park has modified their swimming flag system.

What Were The Previous Flag Conditions At Grand Haven State Park

Green Flag - A green flag means it is safe to swim under the current conditions.

Yellow Flag - A yellow flag means swimming is allowed, but caution should be used.

Red Flag - A red flag means swimming is dangerous and beachgoers should avoid the water.

Grand Haven State Park Modified Swim Condition Flag System

The Grand Haven State Park posted about their modified swim conditions flag system.

Effective immediately Grand Haven State Park will be implementing a modified swim conditions flag system. On days, that water access is closed there will be two red flags flying. The additional flag is very similar to how many oceanfront communities post water conditions.

Other Michigan State Parks with swim areas along the Great Lakes will be implementing the same updates as supplies and materials are received to make the changes.

There are also new signs posted along the shoreline on double red flag days to indicate water access is closed. During a water closure, the park remains open for all other normal activities.

Why Did Grand Haven State Park Modify The Swim Condition Flag System

The decision was made due to recent drownings and near drownings in Lake Michigan.
