Tuesday morning, Grand Rapids' Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum announced that they are closed until further notice due to COVID concerns.

COVID-19 conditions in Kent County and the surrounding areas forced the governing body of the museum, the National Archives and Records Administration, to close the building to the public. They have canceled all in-person public programs, tours, school group visits, public meetings, external conferences, and facility rentals until further notice.

There is no word as to when the museum will reopen. Officials have simply said that it will reopen when, "COVID-19 conditions improve."

In addition to the museum itself being closed, the burial site of President and Mrs. Ford is also closed to the public for the time being.

Anyone who had previously purchased tickets for the museum will be offered refunds.

While closed, there are still some resources that will be available to the public. You can check out the full offerings on the National Archives and Records Administration's website.

The next featured exhibit set to hit the museum is "Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition". That exhibit was originally slated to open to the public on October 22, 2021. Even if the museum isn't back open by then, you'll still have plenty of time to check out the exhibit as it is scheduled to be there until February 20, 2022.
