Grand Rapids Mayor's Youth Council Winter Coat Drive

The Grand Rapids Mayor’s Youth Council, a program managed by Our Community’s Children (OCC), is partnering with the Grand Rapids Public Library (GRPL) to collect new coats and other winter accessories for local teens and young adults.

The Mayor’s Youth Council is a group of area teens in grades 9-12 who spend a year learning about the functions of city government.

Shannon L. Harris, OCC Executive Director said in a release,

Every young person deserves to have a warm coat -- period. We especially want to reach teens and young adults who are unhoused and/or experiencing poverty; and I’m thrilled to see teens helping each other to ensure basic needs are being met.

The goal is to collect at least 500 new coats for local teenagers in need during the winter time.

How Long Does the Coat Drive Run?

The Grand Rapids Mayor's Youth Council Winter Coat Drive is running now through March 4, 2022.

What Items Are Eligible to Donate?

New coats (sizes 14, 16, S, M, L, XL, and 2XL), gloves, mittens, scarves, and hats.

Where Are the Drop-Off Locations?

Winter gear can be dropped off at the eight Grand Rapids Public Library locations. Collection bins are near the front desk at all branch locations and in the lobby of the Main Library during open hours.
