The Grand Rapids Police Department is searching for a driver who hit and seriously injured a child with their vehicle Thursday morning.

According to the GRPD, the crash occurred just after 7:30 a.m. near the intersection of Cherry and Madison.

FOX-17 reports that the child was sent to Helen DeVos Children's Hospital. They are expected to survive.

Police believe that the car that was involved in the crash was a black Ford Escape that headed north on Madison after striking the child.
