GVSU Students Can Win $100 For Getting Vaccine

Grand Valley State University plans to give out $100 to 1,000 GVSU students this summer in an effort to increase the student vaccination rate before classes start this fall. Their Virus Action Team hopes to have 70% of the student body vaccinated by fall.

School officials stated in the announcement,

"The COVID-19 vaccine is the best path out of the pandemic and to mitigate the spread of the virus and variants. The vaccine is also the best way to provide the safest campus possible with a more normal classroom and campus environment.”

Currently, 47% of the students have had at least one dose while the faculty is at 86%. At the campus, July will be branded as "Lakers Vax-Up" month.

Students will have until July 31 to report a self-assessment of vaccination to enter the drawings. It doesn't matter when they were vaccinated. Winners will have $100 credited to their student account once their vaccination status is verified.

GVSU will hold weekly drawings in August to determine the winners of the $100 credit. University officials will give out $100 to 250 students in each weekly drawing, which will take place Aug. 4, 11, 18 and 25.

There are 15 public universities in Michigan that are participating in the White House’s COVID-19 College Vaccine Challenge. Grand Valley State University is one of them.

Although Michigan has dropped its mandatory face mask requirement, GVSU still requires students who are not vaccinated to wear face masks while indoors at all campus locations. The state still allows businesses and school to require masks if they want.
