Here’s What Ten Inches Of Rain In 12 Hours Did To Central Michigan [Video]
A line of heavy showers skirted just north of us on Thursday, and that combined with the heavy rains Friday put most of Central Michigan underwater. Mt. Pleasant was the hardest hit, with the Chippewa River flowing over its banks and literally wiped out roads, including Loomis Road, where this video shows the destruction the floodwaters did early Friday morning.
This video from Mt. Pleasant resident Julie Stevens shows that most of the city was underwater early Friday.
As the Chippewa River drained into the Tittabawasee, it caused problems for Midland, as the river spilled its banks just west of downtown, as shown in this dramatic comparison of before and after photos near the convergence of the Chip and the Tittabawassee posted to Imgur.
The Tittabawassee then flowed downstream to the west side of Saginaw Township, which flooded quickly, and was still underwater in this footage taken late yesterday.
And then there's this surreal footage from Bay City, where an apartment complex resident caught a school of fish swimming down the sidewalk.
Locally, the flow from storm waters caused the Muskegon River near Newaygo to inch near flood stage, causing officials to warn sportsmen to stay off of it. Four people were rescued from the river late Saturday. The White River near White Cloud was also running fast and high.
M-66 north of Ionia was still closed this morning south M-46 as storm runoff caused several streams to flow onto the roadway.
If that wasn't enough, seven foot waves have prompted warnings to go up along the Lakeshore for swimmers today.
