How Did This Happen? Michigan School Bus Goes Through Wet Concrete
Did a Michigan school bus driver really take a bus through wet concrete in a closed-off construction zone?
A video posted on TikTok appears to show a Southfield Public Schools bus driver going through a closed-off construction zone that was having fresh concrete poured at the time.
Since being posted on April 26th the video has been viewed over 2,000,000 times.
Let's Break Down This Video To See What Happened
The video starts out with school bus 22A appearing to drive through some wet concrete.
A few seconds later the video zooms out and you can clearly see a Southfield Public Schools bus driving through wet concrete as construction works look on.
You would think that after going through the wet concrete the bus driver might stop or turn around but no, they continued on through the next section of freshly poured concrete.
One of the construction workers who was filming this runs forward towards the bus as it enters the wet concrete.
In this shot, it looks like the school bus is going to tip over but is able to stay upright as it continues to drive through the freshly poured concrete.
Bus 22A finally makes it out of the closed construction zone and continues driving on like nothing even happened.
In the final shot, you can see that the bus completely ruined the freshly poured concrete.
What Happened To The Bus Driver That Drove Through The Wet Concrete?
Details are still coming in, but a person on the Southfield Public Schools Facebook page left this comment on a recent post about the Engineering of Society Detroit.
Steven Rise said:
I think a certain driver needs to be released because they obviously don't care about the safety of the students by driving through a closed construction zone.
Southfield Public Schools responded to Steven's comment by saying the following:
Southfield Public Schools is aware of the incident involving this bus driver. Upon learning of the incident, the District immediately contacted our transportation partner/the employer, First Student. Southfield Public Schools and First Student understands the gravity of the situation and the driver of the bus has been released. Collectively, we are committed to ensuring our students and staff, while in our care, are delivered to and from school safely. Thank you.
