West Michigan came together as a couple hundred people attended a peace rally and solidarity march through downtown Grand Rapids, Sunday night in response to the “racist” attacks in Charlottesville, Va from white supremacists and neo-nazi groups on Saturday morning.

Those in attendance Sunday evening started at Rosa Parks Circle at 5 pm for a peace rally before marching through downtown with police escorting marchers as well as blocking intersections as the group made their way to Ah Nab Awen park for a candlelight vigil.

According to the story on WOOD TV8, marchers chanted:

“No Nazis, no KKK, no fascist USA,”

“No hate, no fear, everyone is welcome here!”

As WOOD TV8 reported, organizers wanted to give those in West Michigan a chance to denounce the white supremacists who came to Charlottesville to protest the removal of a statue of Confederate General, Robert E. Lee as well as stand in solidarity with those who were killed or injured during attacks while counter protesting.
