Archery season began October 1st which meant many hunters were up in tree stands for the hunt. One hunter fell from his stand over the weekend.

According to FOX 17, a hunter in Bridgeton Township located in Newaygo County Michigan fell from his tree stand and had to be airlifted to the hospital.

Emergency responders say the hunter fell on Saturday morning around 8:47 a.m. in a wooded area near Fitzgerald Avenue and W. South River Drive just east of Twin Lake.

The hunter was 25-years-old and fell nearly 30 feet from his stand according to Newaygo County Central dispatchers.

Since the hunter was hidden pretty well in the woods, it did take a while for police to actually locate the injured man. It also took a little while for the medical helicopter to find a safe place to land to take the hunter to the hospital, but they did find a location near Bailey and Swanson roads.

Once emergency responders will able to locate the man he was then airlifted to the hospital.

No information has been provided regarding how the man fell or what injuries he suffered.

For those that do hunt, it is ultra important to always be wearing a safety harness when using a tree stand and always make sure someone knows where your hunting spots are in case they have to come look for you.
