UPDATE: The City of Grand Rapids is now saying that they hope to open the rink at Rosa Parks Circle on December 18.

ORIGINAL STORY: City officials still hope there will be skating downtown eventually this winter, but for now we'll have to wait.

Grand Rapids city officials have pushed back the opening of ice skating at Rosa Parks Circle until possibly December 20, but even that date is in question.

The announcement come in the wake of Governor Whitmer's extension of pandemic restrictions handed down on Monday, December 7. The rink had been scheduled to open on Friday, December 11.

City spokesperson Steve Guitar told MLive.com that the city still plans to open the rink at some time this winter, but state and federal guidelines in the wake of the uptick of cases of CoVid 19 make that starting date hard to nail down.

The Rosa Parks Skating Rink Facebook page has yet to have posted anything since last season's closing, but the city generally uses that page to announce any closures or openings, so keep an eye on it.
