Is Creston Is Getting A New Kabab Restaurant?
616 Kabab appears to be opening soon on Plainfield across from Kingma's.
The Middle Eastern Eatery May Be Coming To The Spot Once Occupied By Subway
A sign propped in the window of the old Subway sandwich shop says a new restaurant called '616 Kabab Stop' could on the way, but we've had false alarms for new places there before, so I'm only mildly intrigued.
Last year, another sign promised to arrival of place called 'Dipper's Chicken 'n' Fish', but that never materialized. Oddly, Google maps identifies the business located there as 'Didder's Chicken 'n Fish' further confusing matters.
The location of the currently empty storefront is the triangle lot at the corner of Halena and Plainfield, directly across from the parking lot to Kingma's Market.
Some sleuths on Reddit have found that there is a business by that name registered in Kent County as a LLC, further prompting some hope that there might actually be some movement to fill that long abandoned space.
The Cheshire business district of Creston, just north of Knapp has had a lot of rearranging of the decks as far as businesses go, with the recent closing of the Cheshire Grill delivering a hurtful blow.
But several other restaurants, including River North Pub, the Fat Boy Diner and three chain fast food places seem to be hanging tough, so it would seem likely that a take-out kabab place could lock in as a nice addition.
And with it being within waling distance of my house, I'd be all for it! Nothing beats a good kabab with a side of hummus or falafel, and a nice piece of naan bread.
In the words of the immortal CountChoculasGhost on Reddit:
I have been watching it closely. I don't really know anything more about it, but live really nearby, so I have high hopes. Anything is better than an abandoned Subway, right?
Right. I'm still trying to erase the memory of Jared and his big pants from my brain.
Good luck, 616 Kabab, we're rooting for you!
