Lifestyle publication 5 Reasons to Visit sought to find the best Italian eateries in the country. Their editors narrowed it down to a top pick in each state.
5 Reason to Visits choice for the No. 1 Italian restaurant in Michigan is PepeNero in Traverse City.
PepeNero has been on my list for a long time! It's located at The Village at Grand Traverse Commons - which is a whole experience in and of itself! The former Traverse City State Hospital once served as an asylum. The more than 100 year old buildings have now been transformed into a sprawling shopping and dining hotspot. Seriously, it's such a cool place.

While I've dined (and wined) at other spots there like Left Food Charley and Red Spire Brunch House, I always seem to go when PepeNero isn't open - I'll have to change that!
PepeNero first opened at 700 Cottageview Dr Suite 100 in 2013.
According to the restaurant's website, Pepenero tells the story of the two places chef Giorgio Lo Greco considers home: Palermo, Sicily and Traverse City, Michigan.

Here is 5 Reason to Visit's praise for PepeNero:
