Popular Grand Rapids Area Christmas Light Show Vandalized – Opening Delayed

A long-running Grand Rapids area Christmas light show was vandalized overnight and now won't be able to open as planned.

For 27 years, the Christmas Lite Show at LMCU Ballpark in Comstock Park has been delighting families with nearly two miles of lights, animated displays, lighted tunnels, and more.

The Lite show had planned to open Wednesday, Nov. 27 - now that has been delayed.

According to Wood TV 8, it's believed vandals struck the Christmas Lite Show Tuesday night between 8p.m. and 9p.m.

The Kent County Sheriff's Office shared the above security camera footage of the alleged perpetrator, saying:

Preliminary information shows an adult male entered the park just before 9:00 PM last night and damaged hundreds of Christmas lights. The impact does not end with the damaged lights because we know our community looks forward to this annual holiday tradition.

Christmas Lite Show Owner Bill Schrader says about half the light displays are not working and it will take time to fix it.

A 95-year-old U.S. army veteran, Shrader tells Wood TV 8 he had expected about 1,000 cars on opening night. His best guess is that the earliest they'll be able to open is Saturday.

Price on the train is $40 per bench seat, which seats 2 adults comfortably - small children may sit on laps for free. There are 12 benches total.

Once the show is back up and running, prices start at $30 per vehicle to drive through.

On select dates in December, guests can have The Santa House Experience.
