Earn a $10,000 Tax Credit By Being an Organ Donor
Beginning January 1, 2025, a new Michigan law takes effect allowing an individual to earn a tax credit of up to $10,000 by becoming a living donor.
According to WXYZ, there are two purposes for the tax credit for living organ donors. The first is to reimburse donors for out-of-pocket expenses. The second is to create more living organ donors because currently there are well under 200 in Michigan.
According to Michigan.gov, to become a living organ donor you need to be at least 18 years of age, and in good physical and mental health. Below are options for living donors:
- Kidneys
- Parts of other organs like the liver, lung, pancreas, and intestine.
- Corneas
- Tissues that include bones, tendons, and skin.
