USA Today and 10best sought to find the top locations with small populations (fewer than 25,000 people) and big histories in the country. A panel of experts chose twenty historic U.S. havens, and then it was put up to a public vote.
The winner of USA Today and 10Best's "Best Historic Small Town of 2024" is Ludington, Michigan! In 2023, Ludington celebrated it's 50th anniversary.
On the shores of Lake Michigan, Ludington built it's economy on the lumber and shipping industries.
I visit Ludington at least once a year and can attest to it's small town charm!
Of course it's an excellent waterfront location with gorgeous beaches and opportunities for swimming, boating and more. The downtown boasts great restaurants and bars, plus specialty shops and art galleries.
