When people think of the most magical place on Earth, the immediate response by most Americans isn't natural beauties like Machu Picchu or Old Santorini. Nope, that title goes to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Why? Because the park elicits a sense of wonder for everyone who visits (and because Disney owns the copyright for the phrase).

But marketing can be deceiving. What many people don't realize is that the most magical place on Earth is actually located in Michigan, in a small town (or village, according to the US Census) with just over 1,000 residents.

Welcome to Colon, the "Magic Capital of the World".

Colon, The Magic Capital of the World

Located just outside Three Rivers near Michigan's southern border, Colon, Michigan, is a small town known for its "historic architecture, downtown shops, library, and old furniture factory." Most importantly, however, is Colon's reputation as the world's largest manufacturer of magical implements, thanks to Abbott's Magic Manufacturing Company.

Founded in 1934, Abbott's Magic Company has been creating a range of magic supplies unmatched anywhere in the world. From Abbott's Soft Glass to Abbott's CHOMP!, the in-house creations of Abbott's Magic Company are known around the world. The town also hosts a magic festival every year.

The impact of magic on the town is evident when you see just how many businesses feature the word "magic" in their titles. There are four businesses dedicated to magic products or shows, and five total that have "magic" in the title.

The town is so small that Google Maps has only been through once and doesn't show most of it. Thankfully, a YouTube channel has posted a complete drive through the town. Colon may be small, but it stands tall in the world of magic - one could argue even more than Orlando.
