
Michigan Lakes Compete to be Best for Swimming, Watersports in U.S.
If there's a battle for the best bodies of water in the country, Michiganders know our spectacular lakes are going to be duking it out for the top spots!
Multiple USA Today 10best readers' polls are now open, hunting for the best lakes for swimming, watersports, and more. A panel of experts have chosen 20 lakes in each category and now public voting has begun.

One such contest is asking "Which lakeside beach is the best?" I'm honestly shocked just ONE Michigan beach is up for the honor — although it is one of my favorites. Silver Lake State Park on Lake Michigan in Mears is up for the honor.

For years a group of friends and I would camp nearby and I have so many great memories! (Side note: Mears grows some of the biggest asparagus I've ever seen!) Silver Lake State Park truly is a beautiful beach, with its sloping sand dunes and crystal clear water. You can vote for Silver Lake State Park once per day through June 2 at noon here.

When it comes to swimming, where's you favorite spot to take a dip in the Mitten State? Growing up on Lake Michigan, I am partial to it — and it is up for the best swimming lake in the country in USA Today and 10best's poll. Lake Huron, Lake Superior, and Lake Charlevoix are also competing. You can vote for your favorites here.
Aside from swimming, Michigan lakes are excellent for all sorts of watersports: kayaking, canoeing, jet skiing, wind-surfing, paddle-boarding, fishing, and more. In fact, two Michigan kayak tours are battling to be the top tours in the U.S. right now!
