
Four Michigan Locations Competing for Best Small Town in Midwest
Call me biased, but yes, as a native Michigander I do think it's the best state in the Midwest! I'm not surprised then to see multiple Michigan towns up for the honor of top small town in the Midwest.
Which small town in the Midwest is best the subject of a new USA Today 10best reader's poll.

Last year, two Mitten State locales made the top ten - and one of them is in the running again this year!

A panel of experts chose Midwest towns with populations less than 25,000 that are perfect for relaxing getaways, cultural adventures, and family friendly activities. They are " charming, scenic, and historic", brimming with "friendly faces and down-to-earth folks." It's now up to a public vote to determine the top ten.
FOUR Michigan locations are competing. The only other state with as many towns in the running is Indiana.
The two Michigan locations that made that top ten last year were Petoskey, coming in at No. 4, and Traverse City, coming in at No. 8. Petoskey has again been selected to be be among the top 20.

(Mackinac Island is also in the running for "Best Historic Small Town" along with Ludington.)
Having grown up on Lake Michigan in West Michigan, I'm torn between Saugatuck and Grand Haven. They both have special places in my heart! (That said, why isn't my hometown of South Haven in the running??)
