THC Treats Pose New Trick-or-Treat Threat

Halloween is one of the greatest holidays for kids, but with that comes caution when going door-to-door collecting candy.

Police are reminding parents to stay alert and carefully check their children’s candy, as some items that look like regular treats may actually be laced with THC.

What Parents Used to Look for in Their Kids Halloween Candy

I remember when I was a kid, after Trick or Treating, my Mom would go through the candy to check for a variety of things. If I got an apple she was looking for a razor blade or a pin hole for poison.

I never was a fan of houses that gave away apples, pennies, or home made snacks. The home made snacks got thrown away unless we knew the family really well and Mom would eat the apples.

People poisoning candy was something mentioned when I was a kid but after looking it up, this was mostly a myth and rarely ever happened, but enough for parents to want to check the candy.

Or, was checking the candy a ploy to eat all the good stuff like Snickers while the kids were asleep?

Parents Advised to Watch for THC-Laced Halloween Candy

When you see the package, they look like real Jolly Rancher gummies, but these are laced with THC. There are several marijuana candies that are packaged to look like candy people are used to buying but many of these are being sold at cannabis shops and when kids find them, they sometimes make the mistake and eat them.

The City of Warren Michigan's police department issued a press release and photograph of regular looking candy and chips that contain THC, which could be extremely dangerous for kids.
