Ah yes, the joy of construction season is upon us.

Well, if you're late for work after navigating a particularly nightmarish stretch of road in West Michigan, a mayor has stepped up to write you an excused tardy slip to give to your boss.

Last week a $30 million construction project began in Walker to rebuild and widen Fruit Ridge Avenue from 3 Mile Road to Northridge Drive. The original 1961 Fruit Ridge Avenue bridge over I-96 will be replaced as well and the interchange rebuilt. The project also includes a new nonmotorized path along Fruit Ridge Avenue and 3 Mile Road with trail connections on the north and south sides.

As you can image, folks are dealing with lane closures, detours, and cones galore.

If you've braved the area to get to the AGO/ Citgo gas station, know that your valiant effort is appreciated, as the mayor of Walker has issued an excused tardy slip in case you're late for work.

It's titled "Fruit Ridge Detour Zone - Official Excused Tardy Slip" and issued by the "Totally Legit Office of Construction Delay Forgiveness."

Walker Mayor Gary Carey Jr. writes, in part:

Please excuse [name] from their delayed return to work. This dedicated individual was not lollygagging - they were fueling up in more ways than one at Ago/Citgo Gas Station, valiantly navigating the swirling vortex of detours, cones, and lane closures that now grace Fruit Ridge Ave.

Pretty great, right?

From the comments, it seems like a very well loved gas station and people are willing to deal with the traffic issues to get there.
