With highs nearing 75 degrees, it's definitely unusual weather for West Michigan in February (even though this has been Michigan's warmest winter on record.) While possible severe thunderstorms have been predicted, you might be surprised to learn that a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for for 4a.m. through 4p.m. on Wednesday for the counties of Mason, Lake, Oceana, Newaygo, Muskegon, Ottawa, Kent, Allegan, Barry, Van Buren, and Kalamazoo.
At this point it's looking like thunderstorms will begin around 9p.m. on Tuesday. Hail is possible along with isolated tornadoes and high winds.
By 6a.m. rain is expected to be transitioning to snow.
According to the National Weather Service, a powerful cold front will sweep through the area late tonight and Wednesday morning. A burst of snow is expected with the potential for a quick inch or two of snow. The snow combined with rapid onset black ice due to falling temperatures will make for slick travel conditions Wednesday morning. Temperatures will be falling through the 20s on Wednesday.
Please be careful on your drive into work tomorrow!
