When it comes to Upper Peninsula-themed music, the market isn't huge, which isn’t surprising, as only 3% of Michigan’s population resides there. One of the most well-known groups based there is a very serious band known as Da Yoopers, known for creating songs that embrace the sometimes ridiculous lives and habits of being a Yooper, eh.

Beyond Da Yoopers, you won't come across much Yooper-oriented music...until now! A TikTok went viral over the weekend, previewing a new song called "The U.P.," which is set to release soon, and it is full of references to life in the land of the Mitten.

Grand Rapids Native, Scoochie Boochie

Comedian and Rapper Scoochie Boochie creates "funny rap with extensive lore". Want an example? His latest album, Dadquest, is about Scoochie's quest to rescue his father before Scoochie's children find him and take him to a magical realm. So, he’s well-qualified to create a song capturing the absurdity of Yooper life.

As his audience grew, Scoochie Boochie left Grand Rapids and has been working the comedy scene in Chicago for the last seven years. He is also the host of the Holy Smokes podcast. His latest song, "The U.P.," brings him back to his roots in Michigan.

If You Like Lakes, Great

Scoochie's latest song, set to be released on June 26, is a love letter to life in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Often forgotten or included with Wisconsin on maps, the U.P. is the land of "euchre, cougars, and the other kind of cougars," according to Scoochie.

His tongue-in-cheek lyrics are on display when he makes his listeners aware of the Upper Peninsula, claiming that "if you love lakes, great." This is a fire line nodding to the Great Lakes around Michigan, and I'm a big fan of it.

Although the clip is only 30 seconds long, the snippet has garnered 35,000 likes on Instagram, and on TikTok, it has received 28,000 likes and 250,000 views. The comments are full of fellow Michiganders proclaiming how seen they feel while listening to this song, with one stating:

As a Michigander, I've never felt as seen. The euchre reference is perfect.
