Can You Get A Ticket For Going 'Too Slow' In Michigan?

According to Michigan's vehicle code, the basic speed law requires drivers to operate their vehicles at a "careful and prudent clear distance ahead".

This means that drivers must maintain a reasonable and appropriate speed based on the current road and traffic conditions.

Driving significantly below the posted speed limit, even if it is not exceeding the maximum, can be considered a violation of the basic speed law

Michigan also has a "Left Lane Law" that requires drivers to keep right except when passing other vehicles.

If a driver is traveling slowly in the left lane and impeding the normal flow of traffic, they can be pulled over and cited, even if they are not exceeding the speed limit.

The penalties for driving too slowly in Michigan can include a civil infraction fine of up to $100, as well as points on the driver's license.

Slow driving that results in a crash or other dangerous situation could also lead to more serious charges, such as careless or reckless driving.
