Brian Abel, an Emmy-winning evening anchor for WXYZ 7 Action News in Detroit, is leaving the station to join CNN Newsource as a correspondent based in Washington, D.C.
Abel has been at WXYZ's 7 Action News for the past seven years, where he has covered major political stories and breaking news events.
During the 2020 election cycle, he secured exclusive one-on-one interviews with presidential candidates, including then-Vice President Joe Biden, Senator Kamala Harris, Senator Bernie Sanders, and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
He also led the station's coverage of the plot to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the tragic mass shootings at Oxford High School and Michigan State University.
Brian Able Recognized For His Work
In 2020, Abel was recognized with an Emmy Award by the Michigan chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for his reporting on "Connected in Crime: Detroit to West Virginia," a compelling piece that shed light on the repercussions and preventative measures related to a drug pipeline.
He was also nominated for an Emmy in 2019 for his work reporting on Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin's decision to impeach former President Donald Trump.

In his new role at CNN Newsource, Abel will report for the network's extensive network of over 1,000 affiliate partners, drawing on his extensive experience covering high-profile political and breaking news stories.
