While the newest film from the Transformers franchise, Transformers: One, just hit theaters across America over the weekend, Michigan’s Governor Gretchen Whitmer has dedicated September 30th to a different kind of "Megatron"—Detroit Lions legend Calvin Johnson.

As declared by Governor Whitmer, Today (Monday, September 30th) is officially Megatron Day in Michigan, recognizing the iconic wide receiver’s contributions both on and off the field.


Calvin Johnson, known as "Megatron" for his incredible size and athletic ability, had a remarkable nine-year career with the Detroit Lions. He accumulated over 11,000 receiving yards and 83 touchdowns, making him one of the best wide receivers in NFL history. Johnson was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021, but his legacy extends beyond his on-field performance.

He has used his platform to engage in philanthropic efforts and business ventures, including advocating for cannabis reform and supporting Michigan communities.
