Will Grand Rapids Set A New Hottest Temperature This Week?

The hottest temperature ever recorded in Grand Rapids, Michigan is 108°, which happened on July 13, 1936.

This face melting temperature was part of a brutal heat wave that gripped the Midwest in the summer of 1936, known as the "North American Heat Wave of 1936."

On July 12th and 13th of that year, Grand Rapids experienced back-to-back days of extreme heat, with temperatures reaching 106° on July 12th and the record-breaking 108° the following day.

These temperatures were part of a larger heat wave that affected much of the United States and Canada, with several other cities in Michigan also setting their all-time high temperature records during this event.

The 108° temperature on July 13, 1936 remains the highest temperature ever officially recorded in Grand Rapids, according to data from the National Weather Service that dates back to 1898.

While Grand Rapids has experienced  other heat waves and hot summers over the years, none have quite matched the intensity of those scorching days in July 1936.

The next highest temperature on record for the city is 104°, which happened on July 6, 2012 and July 21, 1934.

Unless mother nature decides to heat things up it looks like today's forecast high of 95° it appears no records will be broken this week which is fine with me.

Weather like this makes me wish I had a friend with a pool.
