If you’ve driven past downtown Grand Rapids lately and noticed fencing, equipment, and a whole lot of activity around the David D. Hunting YMCA: don’t panic. Despite the construction chaos caused by the incoming soccer stadium, the downtown Y is not closing its doors.

In fact, there are no plans to close during construction, which is expected to continue until spring 2027.

The $175 million Amway Stadium broke ground in April and will eventually be home to a new Major League Soccer Next Pro team (still unnamed!) and host concerts and other events.

But in the meantime, your downtown workouts, swim lessons, and family visits to the Y can continue as planned, just with a little extra hustle to get in the door.
